VFS Flash Steam Heat Recovery Systems
VIRA VFS Flash Steam Heat Recovery Systems are designed to recover valuable energy released when pressurised condensate or boiler blowdown passes to a lower pressure. The core component of the system is the VFS Flash Vessel, which separates flash steam from the remaining hot condensate under controlled conditions.
Efficient Flash Steam Separation
When hot condensate enters a VFS Flash Vessel, part of its energy is released as flash steam as the pressure falls. The vessel is designed to provide suitable separation conditions, allowing the flash steam to rise and leave from the top connection while the remaining condensate collects and drains from the lower section. Low separation velocity helps support drier flash steam for effective downstream use.
Recover Energy from Two Streams
The separated flash steam and residual hot condensate both contain recoverable energy. Depending on the application, flash steam can be used in a suitable low-pressure steam duty or transferred through a heat exchanger to preheat boiler feedwater. The remaining hot condensate can also be passed through a heat exchanger to recover additional sensible heat before it is returned to the boiler house or discharged.
VFS Flash Vessel Range
VIRA manufactures VFS Flash Vessels in different sizes to suit a wide range of condensate and boiler blowdown duties. Vessel selection is based on condensate or blowdown flow rate, inlet pressure, required flash steam pressure and the intended recovery application. Standard and project-specific connection arrangements can be evaluated according to plant requirements.
Suitable for Condensate and Boiler Blowdown Applications
VFS Flash Vessels can be used in process condensate recovery and boiler blowdown heat recovery systems. In boiler blowdown applications, effective separation of flash steam from the residual liquid is important to support safe heat recovery and help protect downstream boiler feedwater systems and heat-transfer equipment.
Engineered System Design
VIRA VFS Flash Steam Heat Recovery Systems can be supplied as a project-specific package including a VFS Flash Vessel, heat exchangers, condensate handling equipment, valves, steam traps, safety equipment, pressure monitoring, controls and piping. The vessel is installed vertically with the flash steam outlet at the top and condensate outlet at the lower section to support reliable drainage.
Typical Applications
Typical applications include process condensate flash steam recovery, boiler continuous blowdown heat recovery, boiler feedwater preheating, make-up-water heating, low-pressure steam applications and industrial energy-saving projects.
