Automatic Surface Blowdown for Low-Capacity Steam Boilers
VIRA BS1-T is developed for low-capacity steam boilers where reliable control of boiler-water conductivity is required. The system monitors dissolved-solid concentration through conductivity measurement and automatically discharges concentrated boiler water when the configured limit is reached.
Maintaining Suitable Boiler-Water Conditions
As steam is generated, dissolved solids remain in the water and become more concentrated. If this concentration is not controlled, elevated conductivity may contribute to foaming, carryover and deposits. BS1-T provides controlled surface blowdown to help maintain suitable boiler-water conditions without relying on routine manual discharge.
Temperature-Compensated In-Line Measurement
Conductivity is measured on a dedicated boiler-water line using the BD 5300-T temperature-compensated conductivity probe and DG 5100 probe body. The probe is in direct contact with the water flowing through the measurement line. Its integrated PT100 sensor compensates the conductivity reading according to water temperature, supporting dependable measurement under changing operating conditions.
BK 5000-T Controller
The BK 5000-T is a 230VAC panel-mounted controller with an LCD display and four operating buttons. It provides settings for conductivity setpoint, hysteresis, high-conductivity alarm and valve operation. The controller includes one valve control relay and one alarm relay, together with 4–20 mA conductivity output and RS485 Modbus communication for integration into boiler control panels and plant monitoring systems.
High-Conductivity Alarm
When conductivity exceeds the configured alarm limit, BS1-T provides a clear high-conductivity warning. This allows operators to review water treatment, boiler load and operating conditions before excessive dissolved solids affect boiler performance.
BD 5300-T Probe and DG 5100 Probe Body
The BD 5300-T temperature-compensated conductivity probe includes an integrated PT100 temperature sensor. It has a G 1/2" BSPT threaded connection, optional NPT connection, PN40 pressure class, maximum operating pressure of 32 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 239°C. DG 5100 is a carbon-steel probe body with PN40 pressure class and threaded process and probe connections.
BKV 5100 Blowdown Valve
The BKV 5100 stainless-steel valve provides controlled discharge of concentrated boiler water. It is available in 1/2" and 3/4" sizes, maximum operating pressure of 25 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 225°C.
Efficient Operation with Measured Blowdown
By opening the blowdown valve only when measured conductivity requires it, BS1-T helps reduce unnecessary water, energy and water-treatment chemical losses. It provides a practical solution for low-capacity steam boiler applications requiring automatic conductivity management.
