Controlled Water Quality for Coil-Type Steam Generators
VIRA BS2-T is an automatic surface blowdown system developed for coil-type steam generators. In these applications, increasing dissolved-solid concentration can lead to deposits on coil surfaces and reduce heat-transfer efficiency. BS2-T monitors conductivity and controls blowdown to help maintain suitable boiler-water conditions.
Conductivity Measurement on the Water Line
The conductivity measurement point is created on a dedicated boiler-water line. The BD 5300-T probe is installed in the DG 5100 probe body and comes into direct contact with the water flowing through this line. Its integrated PT100 sensor compensates conductivity measurement according to water temperature, helping the system respond to the actual operating condition of the generator.
Automatic Surface Blowdown
When the measured conductivity reaches the configured setpoint, the controller opens the blowdown valve to discharge concentrated water. Once conductivity returns to the desired range, the valve closes. This controlled operation helps avoid both excessive dissolved solids and unnecessary loss of water, heat and treatment chemicals.
High-Conductivity Alarm
BS2-T can provide a high-conductivity alarm when the configured limit is exceeded. The alarm gives the operator clear warning of an elevated conductivity condition and supports prompt review of boiler-water treatment and operating conditions.
BK 5000-T Controller
The BK 5000-T is a 230VAC panel-mounted controller with an LCD display and four operating buttons. It provides settings for conductivity setpoint, hysteresis, high-conductivity alarm and valve operation. The controller includes one valve control relay and one alarm relay, together with 4–20 mA conductivity output and RS485 Modbus communication for system integration.
BD 5300-T Probe and DG 5100 Probe Body
The BD 5300-T temperature-compensated conductivity probe has an integrated PT100 temperature sensor, a G 1/2" BSPT threaded connection and optional NPT connection. It is rated PN40, with maximum operating pressure of 32 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 239°C. The DG 5100 probe body has a carbon-steel construction, PN40 pressure class and threaded process and probe connections.
BKV 5100 Blowdown Valve
The BKV 5100 stainless-steel blowdown valve provides controlled discharge of concentrated boiler water. It is available in 1/2" and 3/4" sizes, maximum operating pressure of 25 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 225°C.
Efficient Generator Operation
BS2-T helps operators manage conductivity without relying on continuous manual blowdown. The combination of temperature-compensated measurement, automatic valve control and alarm monitoring supports efficient operation and helps protect coil heat-transfer surfaces.
