Reliable Surface Blowdown for Low-Capacity Steam Boilers
VIRA D-BS1-T is developed for low-capacity steam boilers requiring dependable conductivity-based surface blowdown control. It monitors the concentration of dissolved solids in boiler water and initiates controlled blowdown when the configured conductivity value is reached.
Why Conductivity Control Matters
As steam is produced, dissolved solids remain in the boiler water and become more concentrated. Without controlled blowdown, elevated conductivity can contribute to foaming, carryover, deposits and unnecessary operating losses. D-BS1-T helps operators maintain the desired boiler-water condition through automatic, measured blowdown.
Temperature-Compensated In-Line Measurement
The system measures conductivity on a dedicated boiler-water line using the BD 5300-T temperature-compensated conductivity probe and DG 5100 probe body. The probe is in direct contact with the water flowing through the measurement point, while its integrated PT100 sensor compensates the reading according to water temperature. This supports reliable measurement under changing boiler operating conditions.
D-BK 5000-T Controller
The D-BK 5000-T controller manages automatic blowdown, conductivity setpoint, conductivity hysteresis, high-conductivity alarm, valve on-off control and calibration functions. Its touchscreen provides clear access to operating values and settings. The controller operates with 24VDC supply and is available for DIN rail or control-panel mounting.
Alarm and System Integration
A configurable high-conductivity alarm warns operators when the selected limit is exceeded. The controller provides one valve control relay, one alarm relay, 4–20 mA conductivity output and RS485 Modbus communication, supporting integration into boiler control panels and plant monitoring systems.
BD 5300-T Probe and DG 5100 Probe Body
The BD 5300-T temperature-compensated conductivity probe includes an integrated PT100 temperature sensor. It has a G 1/2" BSPT threaded connection, optional NPT connection, PN40 pressure class, maximum operating pressure of 32 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 239°C. DG 5100 is a carbon-steel probe body with PN40 pressure class and threaded process and probe connections.
BKV 5100 Blowdown Valve
The BKV 5100 stainless-steel valve provides controlled discharge of concentrated boiler water. It is available in 1/2" and 3/4" sizes, maximum operating pressure of 25 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 225°C.
Efficient Boiler-Water Management
D-BS1-T enables low-capacity boiler operators to manage conductivity with automatic control instead of relying on routine manual blowdown. By discharging water only when the measured value requires it, the system helps reduce unnecessary water, energy and water-treatment chemical losses.
