Designed for Coil-Type Steam Generators
VIRA D-BS2-T is designed for coil-type steam generators, where water quality must be managed carefully to help prevent scale formation on heat-transfer surfaces. The system continuously monitors conductivity and automatically discharges concentrated water when the configured limit is reached.
Why Automatic Blowdown Is Important
During steam generation, dissolved solids remain in the water and their concentration increases. If conductivity is allowed to rise excessively, deposits can form on coil surfaces, reducing heat transfer and affecting operating efficiency. D-BS2-T helps maintain the desired boiler-water condition through controlled, conductivity-based blowdown rather than unnecessary continuous water discharge.
In-Line Conductivity Measurement
Conductivity is measured on a dedicated boiler-water line using the BD 5300-T temperature-compensated conductivity probe and DG 5100 probe body. The probe is in direct contact with the water flowing through the measurement point, while the integrated PT100 temperature sensor compensates the conductivity value according to water temperature. This provides a representative measurement for accurate blowdown control.
BD 5300-T Temperature-Compensated Conductivity Probe
The BD 5300-T is a temperature-compensated conductivity probe with integrated PT100 temperature sensor. It has a G 1/2" BSPT threaded connection, optional NPT connection, PN40 pressure class, maximum operating pressure of 32 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 239°C.
DG 5100 Probe Body
The DG 5100 provides the in-line installation point for the conductivity probe. It has a carbon-steel body, PN40 pressure class and threaded process and probe connections. Its purpose is to position the probe correctly within the water line and provide a reliable measurement point for the control system.
D-BK 5000-T Controller
The D-BK 5000-T controller manages automatic blowdown, conductivity setpoint, conductivity hysteresis, high-conductivity alarm, valve on-off control and calibration functions. Its touchscreen provides clear access to operating values and settings. The controller operates with 24VDC supply and is available for DIN rail or control-panel mounting.
BKV 5100 Blowdown Valve
The system uses the BKV 5100 blowdown valve for controlled discharge. The stainless-steel valve is available in 1/2" and 3/4" sizes, maximum operating pressure of 25 bar(g) and maximum operating temperature of 225°C.
Alarm, Monitoring and Integration
D-BS2-T provides one valve control relay, one alarm relay, 4–20 mA conductivity output and RS485 Modbus communication. The high-conductivity alarm alerts operators when the configured limit is exceeded, while the communication outputs support integration into boiler control panels and plant monitoring systems.
Efficient Water and Energy Management
By initiating blowdown only when required by measured conductivity, D-BS2-T helps reduce unnecessary water, heat and water-treatment chemical losses. It supports dependable operation of coil-type steam generators while protecting heat-transfer surfaces from excessive dissolved-solid concentration.
