Conductivity-Based Condensate Monitoring
The VIRA D-BS3-T is designed to continuously monitor the conductivity of returning condensate in steam systems. It helps users identify abnormal conductivity conditions before unsuitable condensate is returned to the condensate tank and reused as boiler feedwater.
D-BK 5000-T Conductivity Controller
The system uses the D-BK 5000-T conductivity controller. While based on the same controller platform used in surface blowdown applications, the D-BS3-T configuration is designed for a 0–1000 μS/cm conductivity measurement range. The 24VDC controller processes the conductivity signal, manages the configured switching limit and provides a high-conductivity alarm when the selected limit is exceeded.
BD 5300-T Probe and DG 5300 Probe Body
Conductivity is measured by the BD 5300-T probe. The probe is installed with the DG 5300 probe body, which is designed to ensure that the sensing section remains in contact with the condensate flow. DG 5300 is manufactured according to the line diameter and is available in stainless steel or carbon steel. A 1/4" sampling outlet is provided at the bottom of the body for condensate sampling.
Automatic Diversion and Alarm Function
When condensate conductivity exceeds the configured limit, the system provides a high-conductivity alarm and can direct the affected condensate to the drain line rather than the condensate tank. This helps prevent abnormal condensate from mixing with recovered condensate and supports the protection of the condensate return and boiler-water system.
Valve Configurations for the Application
According to the piping arrangement and project requirements, D-BS3-T can be supplied with two optional two-way valves or with one optional three-way valve. The selected valve configuration enables the condensate flow to be directed either back to the condensate recovery line or to the drain line.
Important Measurement Principle
D-BS3-T performs conductivity-based monitoring. It is intended to identify changes that affect condensate conductivity and is not a general analyser for parameters such as pH, turbidity or contaminants that do not influence conductivity.
