Steam & Compressed Air Separators

VIRA Steam & Compressed Air Separators are engineered to remove entrained water droplets, condensate and liquid particles from industrial steam and compressed air lines. By improving fluid quality before it reaches downstream equipment, they support energy-efficient, reliable and safe operation in boiler rooms, process plants and compressed air systems.

Why Steam Dryness Matters

Steam leaving a boiler can carry moisture because of pressure changes, heat losses or rapid load variations in the distribution line. Wet steam reduces heat-transfer efficiency and can contribute to water hammer, corrosion, erosion and unstable process conditions. A correctly selected steam separator helps remove carried-over moisture and supports a drier, more effective steam supply for heat exchangers, control valves and process equipment.

Cleaner Compressed Air for Reliable Operation

Compressed air contains moisture that can condense in pipelines as the air cools. If liquid water reaches downstream equipment, it may affect pneumatic actuators, control instruments, air-operated valves, production machinery and sensitive process applications. Compressed air separators remove bulk liquid water and help provide a cleaner, more dependable air supply before downstream air treatment and end-use equipment.

Vortex and Cyclone-Type Separation Principle

VIRA separators are available in vortex and cyclone-type configurations. The flow is directed through the separator body in a controlled rotational path. Centrifugal force drives the heavier liquid droplets toward the inner wall, where they lose velocity and collect in the lower section. The separated condensate is discharged through the condensate outlet, while drier steam or cleaner compressed air continues through the pipeline.

Protection for Downstream Equipment

Effective separation helps protect valves, heat exchangers, steam traps, pneumatic equipment, instrumentation and process machinery against moisture carryover. It supports stable process conditions, improved equipment performance and reduced maintenance requirements in industrial installations.

Pressure Classes and Material Options

VIRA steam and compressed air separators can be manufactured in PN 16, PN 25 and PN 40 pressure classes. Carbon-steel and stainless-steel construction options are available according to the process medium, corrosion requirements and project specification.

Custom Connections and Condensate Outlets

Connection type, separator configuration and condensate outlet arrangement can be customised for project-specific installation requirements. VIRA provides solutions with special connections and specially configured condensate outlets where standard designs are not suitable for the pipeline layout or operating conditions.

Project-Specific Selection

The correct separator is selected according to operating pressure, temperature, flow rate, connection size, installation position, condensate load and process requirements. VIRA supports project-specific selection for steam and compressed air applications in industrial plants, boiler rooms and OEM projects.
